Jordi Raich Curcó –Barcelona, Spain, 1963– studied Biological Sciences at the University of
Barcelona and International Law and International Relations at the School of Oriental and
African Studies, University of London. He works in humanitarian aid since 1986 as project manager,
researcher and consultant in epidemics, famines and, specially, armed conflicts. He has worked
in Equatorial Guinea, Peru, El Salvador, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Angola,
Mozambique, Mauritania, Georgia, Guatemala, former-Zaire, former-Yugoslavia, Afghanistan
–where he lived three years–, Pakistan, in the US Naval Base of Guantanamo –Cuba–, Washington, New York,
Tajikistan, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Israel, Palestine and Lebanon.
In Spain he was the Director of External Relations of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and co-founder of
Architects Without Borders. He is also associate researcher, specialized in humanitarian
operations, law and ethics, of the Institute of Studies on Conflicts and Humanitarian Action
(IECAH).
Jordi Raich lectures in many masters, intervenes regularly in seminars, conferences, TV and radio
programs, and publishes opinion editorials, features, and essays in daily, weekly and specialized
press. He is also a regular contributor at Catalunya Ràdio and www.eldebat.cat.
He is the author of Guerres de Plàstic (Cossetània 2008), El espejismo humanitario
(Debate 2004) and Afganistán también existe (RBA 2002). Co-author of
Humanitarismo militar, militarismo humanitario (Centre Delàs 2007),
No a la guerra (RBA and Ara Llibres 2003), Before Emergency: Conflict Prevention
and the Media (University of Deusto 2003), Fogo sobre os media (Quarteto 2003),
